YONEX EXBOLT 68 in the Test
As with the predecessor strings in this series, YONEX relies on the proven Forged Fibre material for the outer cover of the new EXBOLT 68, which stands for high durability. The special Elasticity Outer coating on the fibres in combination with the new Oval Forged Fibre is intended to provide maximum smash power with the best control. This new material mix makes the string feel stiff and grippy, which promises additional advantages when stringing the racquet. But now enough technical knowledge - we are curious to see what the practical test will reveal.
First impression: After some time playing in, our BADLAB racket team realised that the EXBOLT 68 keeps the ball on the racket for a long time and therefore provides good control, even if you don't hit the shuttlecock very precisely. The first clears came off easily and landed on the back baseline without any problems. In defence and when playing short at net, our testers quickly realised that the 0.68 mm requires more technical effort than just holding the racquet, as is usual with thinner strings. On smashes, our initial expectations were positively fulfilled and our shuttlecocks were able to reach their target powerfully.
The character of the string was rated according to 8 criteria on a scale from 1 (does not apply) to 5 (fully applies). The highest score is therefore a 5. Here are the facts from our practical test:
YONEX EXBOLT 68 - 0,68 mm | Average |
1. The string gives a good feel (touch/feedback) | 4,4 |
2. The string has good elasticity and damping properties | 4,8 |
3. The string retains its elasticity (trampoline effect) for a very long time | 4,6 |
4. The string supports good length in clears | 4,0 |
5. The string supports my underhand play (e.g. when defending) | 3,6 |
6. The string provides good control during short game (e.g. cut or short cross ball at the net) | 3,8 |
7. The string offers a rich, controlled power transfer on hard smashes. | 4,7 |
8. The string impresses with a good "sound | 3,5 |
Evaluation: The new material mix of the EXBOLT 0.68 mm with a focus on "durability" delivers what it promises and impresses with above-average ratings in almost all disciplines. After the long-term test, our testers agreed that this is a very good "all-round string" that has found its centre of gravity in elasticity with a trampoline effect and damping properties that remain noticeable for a long time. The EXBOLT 68 is very forgiving when hit with less precision. Of course, this comes at the expense of sensitivity in technically delicate play.
In addition, the EXBOLT 68 scored particularly well with our testers thanks to its controlled power transfer on hard smashes. During the entire 6-week test period, not a single string broke, which particularly impressed the hard hitters among us. A real insider tip among the durable strings.
The new EXBOLT 68 is available in 3 colours: black, white and yellow.
We recommend this hard top string to all-round players of all levels who are looking for a forgiving string and do not want to do without durability even when playing powerful offence. Those who primarily play strings with a larger diameter, such as YONEX Aerobite, Nanogy 95, BG 65 or BG 80, will find the new EXBOLT 68 to be an excellent choice, while all lovers of thin strings should definitely give it a try.
In terms of string hardness, we recommend 21 lbs to a maximum of 26,5 lbs.
